California is a U.S. state that is located on the West Coast of the United States. It is home to eight of the nation's 50 most populated cities. California borders Oregon to the north, Nevada and Arizona to the east, and the Mexican state of Baja California to the south; it also has a coastline along the Pacific Ocean to the west. With over 38.9 million residents across a total area of approximately 163,696 square miles (423,970 km), California is the most populous U.S. state, as well as the third most extensive (after Alaska and Texas). Its capital is Sacramento and its largest city is Los Angeles. Walt Disney Animation Studios began here in the late 1920s, leading to the overall growth of The Walt Disney Company of today.
