These are characters who used to do bad things, but they later decided to have a change of heart and become a better person but still have that bit of selfishness left in them. They redeemed themselves due to their reformation, coercion from the protagonists, remorseful over their actions, changing their ways, being saved by the protagonists, become a good person, are now friends with protagonists, betraying the villains, retired from becoming a criminal, etc.
