Redesigned characters

This page lists every character who got a permanent design change.

In the SMG4 series, there are several reasons why a character got a redesign :

• The character's new model is more accurate to their original version's appearance. (More Canonically Accurate Design)
• A 3D model is easier to use than a 2D image in machinimas. (2D to 3D)
• The character originally had a copyrighted design, so they gave them an original model to avoid copyrights issues. (Avoiding Copyright Issues)
• The character’s new look gives them new abilities, affecting the plot. (Scenaristic Reason)
• The character's former design had an outdated look and/or had issues to use for making videos. (Outdated Model)
• The character's previous design was heavily criticized by the fans. (Criticized Design)

Trivia[]

• SMG4 and SMG3 have the most main designs, both at 6, being the GMOD and N64 model as a Mario Recolor, the 2 redesigned GMOD models and the 2 redesigned N64 models.

Meggy Spletzer	From an inkling to a human	SMG4: Final Hours			In-universe: Was turned to a human after all her ink was extracted from her body by The Ink Zuccer 2000. Real life: Avoiding Copyright Issues		After her human transformation, she reappared physically as an inkling (not counting flashbacks) several times : in Mario's Magical TV but poorly represented, in Meggy's Destiny in Meggy's mind, in Deleted when the moment where Mario first met Meggy is revisited, in WHAT IF...? in an alternate timeline and in Mario Can't Play With You Anymore... and If Mario Was In... Splatoon 3 thank to the IP temporary change contract.
Melony	From a melon to a human.	SMG4: Mario's Mask Of Madness			In-universe: Was turned to a human after the Fierce Deity Mask was accidentally put on her. Real life: Scenaristic Reason		She can transform herself back to a melon at her own will as a human, making her the only character with a redesign who can use there old body back whenever they want.

Saiko Bichitaru	Updated design.	SMG4: The Meme Games 2022			In-universe: Gained a new look because the graphics update from Kevin's School was imbued into her when she touched Kaizo. Real life: Outdated Model
SMG4	From a palette swap of the SM64 Mario model to an original model who resembles Luke Lerdwichagul (with additionally a beard for SMG3 as a reference to his voice actor).	SMG4: If Mario Was In... Splatoon 3			In-universe: Was turned to a Nintendo IP after signing the temporary IP change contract so he could pass the firewall and save Mario. (temporary) Have received a completely original model because Shigeru Miyamoto did not want SMG4 to look like Mario anymore. (permanent) Real life: Avoiding Copyright Issues	(The transformation isn't shown on-screen)	Luke already talked about redesigning his character in 2019 Was The Biggest Year Of My Life, which ultimately happened almost 3 years later.
							Their old design were shown in a mirror in SMG4 Movie: IT'S GOTTA BE PERFECT. Before their redesign, several merchandises used a design similar to their current appearance, like in the poster of SMG4 Movie: 10 Year Anniversary Special and SMG4 Movie: REVELATIONS, in order to avoid to copyright issues.
SMG3		SMG4: War Of The Fat Italians 2022 (GMOD) SMG4: MARIO BALLIN?!?! (N64)			In-universe: Have received a completely original model because Shigeru Miyamoto did not wanted for SMG3 to looks like Mario anymore. Real life: Avoiding Copyright Issues
Fishy Boopkins	From a Spike to an original model.	SMG4: War Of The Fat Italians 2022			In-universe: Have received a completely original model because Shigeru Miyamoto had enough of seeing any YouTube videos with a Spike or Garos filled with comments of their names, and more broadly the two species being always associated with them. Real life: Avoiding Copyright Issues		Boopkins briefly turned back to his first redesign in SMG4: Super SMG4 Wonder and Mario reacts to Nintendo Memes 16 Ft. Boopkins, most likely as a joke due to the fact that the model was hated by the fans for its ugliness.
Bob Bobowski	From a Garos to an original model resembling his previous design.
SMG4	More clean and polished model.	It's Gotta Be Perfect...[1]			In-universe: New design given by SMG3 due to the complaints from the fans. (Non-Canon) Real life: Criticized Design / Outdated model	(The transformation isn't shown on-screen)

Fishy Boopkins	New appearance resembling his Spike's design, as well as JubJub's design.	Mario Plays Cat Mario but every time he dies the walls close in (Accidental leak) ........Announcement?????? Tari	Updated design resembling more her Meta Runner counterpart.	SMG4: Grand Theft Mario			In-universe: New design given by SMG4 because several other characters had an upgraded look over the past year on SMG4.(Non-Canon) Real life: Outdated Model		Before getting her official redesign, C_art has made two models of Tari with his own take on her redesigns.
Peach Toadstool	Turned into a beast.	SMG4: Let’s Go Visit Peach!			In-universe: Mutated into a beast after being stuck for too long inside the crater formed by the Demonic Goop. Real life: Scenaristic Reason
Joke redesigns
"Non-copyright" SMG4	Has Luke's animated avatar.	SMG4: WHAT IF...?			Got their appearance and name changed in order to stop being Nintendo IP after the company sent cease and desist to SMG4.		This "redesign" predicted SMG4 getting an actual and permanent redesign in The Lawsuit Arc.
							Their "redesign" is most likely a reference about the Cease and Desist Controversy of the SML channel, wich forced Logan Thirtyacre to completely stop using Nintendo IPs and permanently change the design (and sometimes name) of all the Nintendo characters.
Mario (renamed "Marko")	Has the Hobo Mario model from The Simpsons Game.
Luigi (renamed "Loui")	Has the appearance of SpongeBob SquarePants with a green skin, but still has the same hat.
Princess Peach (renamed "Princess Mango")	Has her Super Smash Bros. Brawl model but with green clothes and an alien head.
Bowser	Simplified body (except for the shell) with the head of the turtle emoji.
Toad	Same design but with very long legs.	SMG4 Movie: IT'S GOTTA BE PERFECT			Redesigned by an insane SMG4 due to being possessed.		This "redesign" is a joke on the fact that many characters got redesigned the last few years, wich angered many fans.
Mario	Deformed amalgam of Mario with an ape's body, cat's ears and whiskers and a tanooki's tail.	Mario Attempts World Records			Redesigned by SMG4 because Mario wanted to beat the record of the most body modifications.		This joke reference fans debating about whether or not Mario will be redesigned. While Mario is still in the process of transformation, it's possible that the model used is C_ART's fanmade redesign.
