Synopsis[]

Mario has to say goodbye to his longtime friend...

Plot[]

"How do you think this will end?"
"It will end with Mario getting his friends back! YOU BIG MONKEY!!"

Lawyer Kong, Mario

"He has no style! He has no grace! This Kong has a gun!"

Lawyer Kong

Following Lawyer Kong's alleged victory, Mario and SMG4 are sharing a final moment on the roof of Peach's Castle, with SMG4 commenting that he is going to miss the Mushroom Kingdom. He reminisces about past adventures such as when they accidentally let the Chomp out, when Mario got his pingas stuck in a door and when they took on a cosmic eldritch monster, but Mario is unable to contain his sadness. He burst into tears and hugs SMG4, begging him not to leave, and after a moment SMG4 returns the hug.

They are broken up by Lawyer Kong clearing his throat, indicating that it is time for him to go. Mario begs SMG4 not to leave, but he has no choice. SMG4 asks if he can say a final goodbye to his viewers, and Lawyer Kong accepts. SMG4 then turns to the camera, and thanks everyone for watching his videos before saying goodbye. In real life, Luke Lerdwichagul sadly goes to his channel settings and deletes the channel, killing SMG4 in-universe, before he removes his SMG4 cap and leaves the room to mourn. Back in the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario was driven into silent sadness.

After his final farewell with SMG4, Mario returns to working for Nintendo, but is too depressed to accept his original life without his Non-Nintendo friends and fails to perform to the standards of Shigeru Miyamoto such as stomping on enemies like Goombas and Koopa Troopas, saving Peach from Bowser, completing levels or even participating in events like Smash Bros. Battles and Kart Races. Despite his concern for Mario, Miyamoto continues to express frustration that Mario isn't cooperating and calls a break so they can blow off some steam. Mario goes to the restroom in Nintendo Headquarters to take a crap, but as he locks the stall door and hangs his cap, he sees the Parody Contract fall out and onto the floor. He is too dumb to realize what it is, until Phoenix Wright takes it after the plumber passes him the paper and explains how it can undo the effects of the Super DMCA and resurrect SMG4. Realizing that when Miyamoto signed the DMCA, Meggy slipped the contract into his cap before she died, Mario thanks her for her final deed and decides to save SMG4 - but to do so, he has to escape Nintendo Headquarters and get the Parody Contract to a judge.

As Lawyer Kong celebrates his victory in the office by filing cease-and-desists against fan projects and ROM hacks, he sees a cardboard box sliding across the room, with Mario's voice telling him not to think anything of it. Lawyer Kong removes it, only be blown up by a Bob-omb with a walkie underneath, with Mario taking this opportunity to make a mad dash. Lawyer Kong sounds the alarm and sends the Butt Ninjas to apprehend Mario, but the plumber navigates the headquarters and the various games being developed, using their items and gimmicks to slow the Butt Ninjas down.

Mario eventually reaches the item storage and finds a Launch Star he can use to escape, but it is guarded by Lawyer Kong and the remaining Butt Ninjas. The group do battle using Nintendo's most iconic weapons and power-ups, but Mario uses the power of Majora's Mask to dance his way through the Butt Ninjas and reach the Launch Star, sending himself flying out the building and into Mushroom City. Lawyer Kong chases after Mario in a Koopa Clown Car and tries to shoot him down with a revolver, but Mario manages to dodge the shots mid-air and crashes into the Supreme Court of the Mushroom Kingdom. Lawyer Kong catches Mario and is throttling him when Kirby, who was drinking milk when the tackle knocked the parody contract was sent flying into his face, calls a "HOLD IT!" and reveals that it contends with the Super DMCA, much to Mario's joy and Lawyer Kong's shock. Despite Lawyer Kong's objections, Kirby uses his gavel to awaken the contract's power, and one by one, SMG4 and the OCs are resurrected in the courtroom, perfectly intact.

Mario bursts into tears of joy and is about to bring SMG4 into a hug when Kirby stops him. He explains that they will hold a trial to determine whether the SMG4 channel should be allowed to stay or remain deleted, but Lawyer Kong interrupts him with hysterical laughter - SMG4 doesn't even have a lawyer to defend him, and without proper representation, he is automatically guilty. Mario is in despair, but just when all looks lost, Meggy strides into the courtroom in her lawyer attire and objects to Kong's statement, saving them. Kirby then declares that the trial of SMG4 v. Nintendo is now in session, and the screen cuts to black as he bangs his gavel. The video ends in a cliffhanger with the released date announced for WOTFI 2022, which will be the finale of The Lawsuit Arc.

Trivia[]

  • Kirby is voiced by Hayley Nelson, known for her role of Sofia Porter in Meta Runner, in this episode.
  • Oofio appears as an N64 model in this episode.
  • In this episode, WOTFI 2022 was announced for October 15.
    • There was no regular or The Lawsuit Arc episode released before The Lawsuit Arc Finale on the following week after this episode was released. Instead a video from the Mario Does Things series, "Mario Reacts To Nintendo Memes 11 ft. Meggy," was released to give fans something to watch and have fun and laughter so that the production team can have more time to finish working on the Lawsuit Arc Finale.
  • On the thumbnail, the gravestone reads "R.I.P. 1999 - 2022", referencing to the year Luke Lerdwichagul was born.
  • Meggy may have decided to become a lawyer again, as mentioned in SMG4: Breaking Luigi.
    • In addition, she got a new model skin.
  • This is one of the few SMG4 videos that doesn't start with an intro, although the camera focused on the hat during the live action scene in a way showing the title of the series just like the intro did.
    • This is also the forth video to not have Mario's "That's-a so nice" in the intro, first being SMG4: The Final Piece, SMG4: Mario Games Be Like and SMG4: Five Nights At Freddy's Games Be Like....
  • This is the second time in an arc where Mario is the last hope to save his friends, with the first being The YouTube Arc.
    • The events of this episode and the prior one are very similar to the YouTube Arc, with Mario's friends dying and then being revived in the next episode just in time for WOTFI.
    • In SMG4: Mario Can't Play With You Anymore..., Mario got quickly brainwashed as he is in firewall, however it is an exception to this episode.
      • Ironically, if Mario was brainwashed already in this episode, he would never know how to revive the SMG4 gang and the non-Nintendo characters, despite the Parody Contract that Meggy secretly gave him and thus would work for Miyamoto very well again while the SMG4 channel is permanently gone forever, possibly terminated by YouTube due to Nintendo's lawsuit against SMG4.
  • This episode premiered on the same day as the 30th anniversary of the launch of the TV channel Cartoon Network in the United States and the birthday of Hololive VTuber Inugami Korone.
  • For Now,Mario's N64 model has been reverted to his tiny version, since season 5.
  • Hours after the episode premiered, SMG4's Discord and Twitter accounts were hacked.[1] That's a coincidental moment, considering the events of that video.
    • It was later resolved after hours of battle with the hacker, where the latter ultimately lost.[2]
  • The fourth wall is broken when Mario saw a Wii Remote nearby, running over to it and kicking it's HOME button, effectively halting time.
  • This is last episode to feature the 2021 banner for the intro and outro.
  • Running gag: Whenever Mario launches with a Launch Star, he always crash into Honey Queen's belly, causing her to scream in pain.
  • After this episode was released, the banner was changed to the background being red, every non-Nintendo character completely faded, and with Mario, Luigi, Bob, Boopkins being horrified of the appearance of Lawyer Kong's giant shadow looming over them. The SMG4 logo is also blurred out.
    • Originally, a different banner was meant to be used; this banner is much darker, having the remaining characters face a triumphant Lawyer Kong while Mario looks away in sadness. It was scrapped as it did not match the hopeful tone of the episode.

References[]

  • Nineteen Eighty Four: The episode is an obvious parody to George Orwell's 1949 British dystopian science-fiction novel.
  • Meta Runner: During the scenes where everyone else came back to life, SMG2 came back holding a coconut. This is a direct reference to Theo from Meta Runner since he holds a coconut as a trusty weapon.
    • This is also a reference to how SMG2 & Theo share the same voice actress.
  • Better Call Saul: The show's logo is edited to include Meggy Spletzer's name.
  • Duck Hunt: The way Lawyer Kong Tries to Shoot Mario and misses is similar to how the player Misses the Ducks in that game.
