The Earl of Lemongrab (referred to as "Lemongrab 2") is the supporting character in Adventure Time. He is a clone of the Earl of Lemongrab, created by Princess Bubblegum to cure the loneliness felt by the original (whom she also created). The Lemongrabs reside in Castle Lemongrab, where they jointly rule the Earldom.
He was voiced by Justin Roiland who also voiced both Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith in Rick and Morty.
Appearance[]
Lemongrab 2's physical form is exactly the same as the original Lemongrab's. He wears an all white version of Lemongrab's outfit, and has a baby blue belt and boots rather than a green sash and dark grey boots as Lemongrab does. Both outfits have the same light green lime on the sash or belt. Lemongrab 2 has a scepter with an emerald gem. In the episode "Too Old," Lemongrab 2 seems to have been partially eaten by Earl of Lemongrab, an event that was shown in "Another Five More Short Graybles." Most of the left side of his face has been bitten off. He appears malnourished, although not to the extent as seen in "All Your Fault." He is missing the lower half of his body; therefore, he uses a hovercraft as his transportation. He was eaten alive again, seemingly fully this time, by his brother after rebelling against his oppressive regime and inciting the Lemon Children to do so.
Biography[]
Lemongrab 2 was created by Princess Bubblegum in "You Made Me" to keep Lemongrab company in his Earldom. He was made in the pantry in Castle Lemongrab. Princess Bubblegum instructed him to come into the room in which Lemongrab was present, then left him alone to speak to the earl. As Lemongrab brandished his sword at Princess Bubblegum, the princess pointed to the door, where Lemongrab 2 stood. He asked: "Hello? Am I in the right room?" and introduced himself as "Lemongrab" when he was questioned by Lemongrab. Lemongrab, curious about the fellow, poked him all over his body, which Lemongrab 2 didn't mind. Lemongrab 2 responded by poking Lemongrab back. He and Lemongrab quickly became best friends, and happily agreed to pardon the prisoners. At the end of "You Made Me" the happy Lemongrab friends insisted that Princess Bubblegum keep in touch with them, Lemongrab 2 adding, "But call first!" as Lemongrab tells her to "stop by any time."
Lemongrab 2 reappears in "All Your Fault," very skinny and suffering from malnutrition due to the Lemongrabs' obsession with turning all of their food into Lemon Children. Out of candy supplied by Princess Bubblegum, the Lemongrabs plan to take over the Candy Kingdom with the help of Lemonjon, blaming their misfortune on PB. However, Lemonjon destroys himself instead before they can reach the kingdom, turning himself into plentiful candy sweets. Lemongrab 2 also appears in "Another Five More Short Graybles" along with his brother, playing with their tiny doll Lemon Sweets, but begin to fight over the doll for control. While Lemongrab 2 selects a bonnet for Lemon Sweets, Lemongrab makes the doll dance, causing them to struggle over it, and resulting in it shattering on the floor. Enraged, Lemongrab devours Lemongrab 2 in a fit of anger.
In "Too Old," Lemongrab 2 is missing a chunk of his head and is unable to walk, relying on a hover chair to move around. Lemongrab has taken complete control of the Earldom, including using electric shocks to force the other Lemon people into conformity, and is overweight, most likely from eating part of Lemongrab 2. When Finn and Princess Bubblegum arrives for a dinner party, Lemongrab treats his clone very poorly, even shouting at him for hovering too high. Lemongrab 2 then gives a lemon child part of his bread, after Lemongrab snatches it away and eats it, causing them to argue. He later allows Finn, PB and Lemonhope to escape in an act of goodness. Just before being completely eaten alive by his corrupt brother, he tells Lemonhope to go away, grow strong, and come back one day to save everyone from the original Lemongrab.
In "Lemonhope Part 2", he is still trapped within Lemongrab's stomach, somehow still alive. On one fateful day, Lemonhope returns to save the Lemon People. Lemongrab 2 assists Lemonhope one last time by taking away his ear plugs so that Lemonhope can play the harmonica, which can kill Lemongrab. Thanks to his nobile act, Lemonhope defeats Lemongrab, but after Lemongrab's explosion, he is killed as well. Eventually, he is merged with Lemongrab and revived as Lemongrab 3 by Princess Bubblegum.
Personality and traits[]
The two Lemongrabs seem to get along very well most of the time, as they are each other's types. In fact, each Lemongrab seems to be unable to get along with anyone but the other Lemongrab, or at least a lemon-type creature that can understand his "lemon styles." The Lemongrabs' personalities are difficult for most others to understand because of their stubbornness, extreme sensitivity and apparent inability to have regret or caring feelings toward others. Thus, the only ones who understand them seem to be themselves. When Lemongrab and the Lemongrab 2 first meet, they poke each other's faces for quite some time, before they decide they like each other. After that, they smile, agree that they like each other, and nuzzle. Lemongrab 2 is as socially awkward as Lemongrab, except he seems to be calmer and more level-headed. (However, this may be because Lemongrab was currently suffering from intense anger and stress at that particular time, while Lemongrab 2 was not.) Like Lemongrab, Lemongrab 2 has a loud disposition, and says much of his dialogue louder than necessary up to the point of yelling, which he seems to enjoy doing. He thinks the same way as Lemongrab—even finishing the earl's sentences. When he presents the idea of pardoning the prisoners, Lemongrab is quick to agree with the idea, and Lemongrab 2 yells "PARDONS FOR ALL!"
In "Too Old" it appears that each Lemongrab's personality has tilted to extremes. Lemongrab is gluttonous, hot-headed, and cruel, while Lemongrab 2 is humble, charitable, and peaceful despite the treatment his brother gives him. When Lemongrab steals a lemon person's piece of bread at the dinner table, Lemongrab 2 attempts giving him half of his own bread, which in turn enrages Lemongrab. Both Lemongrabs both have the same taste of music, since they both dance to Lemonhope's off-key flute playing, but when Lemongrab 2 frees Finn, Princess Bubblegum, and Lemonhope from the cage Lemongrab goes into another fit.
Relationships[]
Earl of Lemongrab[]
Lemongrab 2 and Lemongrab "are a lot like twin brothers," according to storyboard supervisor Ian Jones-Quartey. Not only are they made of the same formula and genetic material, they love each other and care for each other immensely. Lemongrab 2 was quick to befriend Lemongrab, and enjoys his company. However, their out-of-control personalities still seem to cause them problems despite their being exactly the same.
In "Another Five More Short Graybles," Lemongrab becomes enraged when Lemon-Sweets shatters on the floor. He then begins to shove Lemongrab 2 into his mouth while Lemongrab 2 yells "THE END! MY END!" This indicates that while Lemongrab 2 may be the only person Lemongrab is able to get along with and care for, Lemongrab lets his feelings of jealousy get out of control, and seems to want Lemongrab 2 gone.
In "Too Old" it is seen that Lemongrab not only has consumed much of his clone, but also that he has now turned
the entire Earldom into his tyrannic domain. Lemongrab 2 is continuously beaten and belittled by his brother throughout the episode. When he releases Finn, Princess Bubblegum, and Lemonhope, his brother goes berserk and consumes him whole this time. When Lemongrab threatens to kill the trio, Lemongrab 2 forces his way out of his brother's mouth in order to free the Lemon Children and help Finn and co escape. He is then swallowed again, seen next in "Lemonhope Part 1," in Lemongrab's stomach, aiding Lemonhope. After Lemonhope caused Lemongrab 1 and 2 to explode using his harp, the two were stitched together to form Lemongrab 3.
Princess Bubblegum[]
Princess Bubblegum made Lemongrab 2 "for Lemongrab to be with," and smiled as she said this. Lemongrab 2 seems to like Princess Bubblegum, and the idea of her coming to visit him and Lemongrab in their castle quite often. Princess Bubblegum said "Take care, boys!" as she left Castle Lemongrab, indicating that she cares about them and views them in a familial manner. When Lemongrab tells Princess Bubblegum to "stop by any time," Lemongrab 2 smiles, nods, and insists that Princess Bubblegum "call first." In "All Your Fault," he refers to her as "Mother Princess."
Lemon Children[]
The Lemongrabs have several Lemon Children, whom they love and care about immensely. The Lemongrabs see themselves as fathers to the young people they create, and made a point to welcome each new offspring into the world with a smile and a name. The earls love their kids so much that they used all of their food to keep making more of them. When the Lemongrabs prepare to leave to speak to Princess Bubblegum, they notified the children "so they wouldn't worry while they were away." The Lemongrabs prepared to conquer the Candy Kingdom to use all of their candy to make more children, and create an army to steal all the candy in the world to feed their children. The Lemon Children seem to return this affection to their fathers.
Winged Lemongrab Horse[]
The relationship that Lemongrab 2 has with his mount has not been fleshed out in the events of the show. However, Winged Lemongrab Horse has been seen smiling when Lemongrab 2 is sitting on it, indicating that Lemon Pegasus likes Lemongrab 2 and doesn't mind living with him in Castle Lemongrab (as opposed to Lemon Camel, who doesn't appear to care either way.)
