Synopsis[]

Looks like no more Mario for SMG4...

Plot[]

One day, Mario walked into the castle to find everyone else acting strange, such as Toad acting worried that Bowser kidnapping Peach, and Bowser acting evilly, When Mario took out his gun to try to take Bowser out, it was censored, being changed into a Fire Flower at the last moment. Feeling something is going on, Mario went outside and found Luigi. To test whether or not he is normal, he brought out Playboy magazine, where Luigi is shown to be normal before the magazine was censored into a Holy Bible. Feeling something weird is going on, the brothers went to find a huge barrier, being inaccessible to the other side, now a desert.

Meanwhile, SMG4 and Meggy woke up to find themselves on the other side with others like them. Finding the huge barrier and meeting up with the Mario and Luigi, Meggy broke her leg while attempting to cross through. Suddenly, Lawyer Kong tells them they found the firewall, which he with permission from Nintendo had set up to keep the non-Nintendo characters out. He had set up the firewall to turn the Mushroom Kingdom into a walled dictatorship, brainwashing the Nintendo characters in the Firewall to how they were before SMG4 had arrived, so that they could create more games with Mario, despite knowing previously that he does not want to, and to remove the "trash", which was non-Nintendo characters and memes, including SMG4 and Meggy themselves, in which Lawyer Kong viewed them as "disease" and wanted to keep the Mushroom Kingdom meme-free to safeguard their intellectual property from non-Nintendo elements to secure their profits and revenues. While SMG4 innocently begged that he wanted to make videos, Mario demanded that they be let to the other side, he noticed Luigi looked dark, and witnessed him brainwashed and lost his memories of his time with SMG4 and his friends as the effects of the Firewall started to show. With Mario crying out for the loss of his brother, Lawyer Kong however was only amused, seeing that his plans were working and left.

Angered, Meggy was determined to let Mario out of the Firewall, despite her attempts at breaking the Firewall failing. After so many attempts at breaking the Firewall, SMG4 and Meggy were about to give up, but they noticed a checkpoint where any citizens left behind were allowed into the Mushroom Kingdom. As only Nintendo characters are allowed to get in, non-Nintendo characters, including Swag, were detained and rounded up into a truck. As Meggy was about to beat the Kremling border guard, SMG4 stopped her, telling her that the Firewall was set up due to her pissing off Lawyer Kong. As SMG4 feared any severe reprisal from Nintendo HQ with a potential DMCA on his channel, he, along with every characters would be erased from existence, and that they had to secede and accept their fate.

Meanwhile, as Mario noticed the non-Nintendo characters on a truck on their way to a detainment camp, Mario hopped on behind. Arriving at the detainment camp, the non-Nintendo characters were caged. While Mario was there, the Butt Ninjas guarding there did not mind his presence. There, Mario found Sonic, who explained that non-Nintendo, third-party characters were brought here because they were in a Nintendo game, dubbing themselves the "Grey Area" characters, here detained until Nintendo figured out what to do with them. If unwanted, they would be blasted away to be burnt by Galeem in the sky, to which Phoenix Wright called it a human civil rights violation. Mario, seeing if he could offer his help, pleaded, however Wright refused to do so unless if he was let out.

After failed attempts by Mario to break the cage, Mario began to feel strange about himself, and then an announcement from the boss came. The boss, none other than Shigeru Miyamoto, had arrived, and found Mario. As he was looking for inspiration for a new game, Mario had a clever solution where he involved all the Grey Area characters in one game he dubbed New Super Mario Everyone Is Here So Please Let Them Out Miyamoto Yahoo, and with Miyamoto's approval, let the Grey Area characters out, much to their relief. As Wright thanked Mario, he found Mario profusely sweating and watched him fall to the ground and faint due to the Firewall's effects. Just before fainting, Mario pleaded to Wright to help his friends. As he woke up later, he was brainwashed and lost his current personality as well as his memories of his time with SMG4 and his friends.

At the other side of the Firewall, SMG4 and Meggy were sitting on a rock with SMG4 sharing his idea about making an SMG4 Depressing Arc, to then Meggy pointing out that all his arcs are depressing to which he agrees, Wright came before them to help them get through the Firewall without pissing Nintendo off by offering them temporary IP change contracts. If signed, that would make them Nintendo property as long as the contract permitted them. As Meggy signed the contract, the powers of the contract transformed her back to her Inkling form, and with new hope, SMG4 and Meggy set off to rescue Mario and the imprisoned Mushroom Kingdom citizens, ending the episode in a cliffhanger.

  • (3:04) In the scene where Mario, Luigi, SMG4 and Meggy shocked to see Lawyer Kong, the giant right eye on Meggy's face isn't placed properly.

Continuity[]

  • If Mario Ran Nintendo: Once again, Mario presents his own Nintendo game. Much like he presents New Super Flappy Craft Party Modern Warfare & Knuckles 3D from this previous episode.
  • SMG4: SMG4's Origins: A flashback of SMG4 landed in Mushroom Kingdom in his Guardian Pod and how it changed how everyone got corrupted is shown. Because of the firewall, every Mushroom Kingdom citizens imprisoned in firewall got brainwashed and reverts back to how they were before SMG4 arrived while also losing their memories of it as well.
  • SMG4: Mario The Supreme Leader: The Mushroom Kingdom once again becomes a dictatorship, this time under Nintendo HQ.

  • SMG4: Final Hours: Meggy's former Inkling form returns temporarily.

Trivia[]

  • Like SMG4: SMG4 Gets Sued, the episode is a satirical criticism and parody based on Nintendo's over-protectiveness of their IPs and taking down fan content with DMCAs.
    • The episode is also a some sort of metaphor on the post-DMCA version of fellow Mario fan-content creator SML's main series, where the creator, Logan Thirtyacre, was forced to remove the Nintendo characters to make way for exclusive original ones that where already created after getting DMCAed by Nintendo themselves for crude and inappropriate humor.
    • However, since Glitch Productions is based in Australia, their Fair Use law will protect them, as it falls under parody and satire, unlike SML, who is based in the United States.
  • The Fourth Wall broke when SMG4 was making a brand new story arc called the Depression Arc, in which Meggy responds that SMG4 series' story arcs are all depressing, referencing the fact that each arc gets darker and darker, which remains especially true with the SMG4 Cosmology Lore, being considered the series' darkest arcs.
  • This marks the first appearance of:
  • This is the only time Banjo is seen without Kazooie.

References[]

  • Toy Story 2: The title of the video is a reference to the scene where Andy says he doesn’t want play with Woody anymore in a nightmare sequence.
  • Toy Story 3: When Luigi and later Mario gets brainwashed into normal selves via firewall is very similar to how Lotso brainwashed Buzz Lightyear into thinking he's a real space ranger via resetting him to demo mode.
  • Nineteen Eighty-Four: This episode is inspired from this 1949 British dystopian science fiction novel by George Orwell.
    • The firewall that brainwash Mushroom Kingdom citizens is a reference to brainwashing campaign from 1956 film adaptation of this novel, 1984.
  • Total Recall: This episode has some references from this 1990 science fiction film directed by Paul Verhoeven, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and distributed by TriStar Pictures.
  • JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: At the minute 4:29, Meggy does the "ORA ORA" Rush from Jotaro Kujo.
  • Minecraft: At the 4:45 minute mark, SMG4 digs straight down, ending with him falling into lava. This is a reference to a common rule/meme in the Minecraft community to never dig straight down.
  • Goldeneye 007: Swag tells the Nintendo security checklist guard that he originally came from this game when he was denied access from outside the firewall, despite it actually being a licensed game that's based off a James Bond film (which are own by Danjaq & MGM Studios).
    • Ironically however, the butt ninjas originated from Goldeneye 007 as well and they work for Nintendo.
  • Kirby: Right Back at Ya!: Tiff, Tuff and Escargoon appears as one of the many grey zone characters. This could also be in reference to the fact that, while they are indirectly Nintendo characters coming from the Kirby franchise, they don't directly appear in the Kirby games aside from Escargoon and the NME Salesman, who both make cameos in some of the subgames of Kirby Mass Attack
  • Meta Runner: This episode has some reference to the third and final season of this web series.
  • Under the Doome:

Sad Mario I'm so lonely...
