Mordecai is one of the two main protagonists (alongside Rigby) of the 2010 Cartoon Network animated series Regular Show, and the deuteragonist of Regular Show: The Movie.
He is an anthropomorphic blue jay and is Rigby's best friend. He works as a groundskeeper at the park but often like to slack off with Rigby, much to the dismay of their boss Benson Dunwoody.
He was voiced by J.G Quintel (who also voiced Hi Five Ghost), the creator of Regular Show and Josh in Close Enough.
Appearance[]
Mordecai is a 6'0 tall blue jay. He has blue feathers with a white lining on his chest. Plus, Mordecai has a black beak, as well as black stripes on his tail feathers and fingers, as well as two white stripes on his wings.
Personality[]
Mordecai would be best described as mild-mannered, easygoing, laid back, and good-natured. Out of the duo, Mordecai displays far more patience, intelligence and responsibility than Rigby does.
Even though almost every problem in every episode that was caused by the duo is Rigby's fault, Mordecai puts up with the latter's laziness and incompetence, once filling out a job application for Rigby because he claimed it was "boring". Mordecai tends to be more sociable and friendly than Rigby, and has much more manageable relationships with others. Although Mordecai naturally despises work, he strives to keep a good reputation, once almost losing his life to avoid being labeled as a slacker.
Mordecai's most notable shortcoming is his inability to maintain his romantic relationships, Whenever he was around his former crush, Margaret Smith, he would be depressed in loss of words or lose focus. In spite of this, he would often make up excuses to go to the Coffee Shop just to see her.

Alternate future[]
In an alternate timeline, the revelation that Rigby had forged Mordecai's rejection letter, Mordecai joined forces with Mr. Ross to gain revenge on Rigby. Once Mordecai learned the truth, he becomes outraged by this and joined Mr. Ross' criminal empire and turned against his own friends since he would have had a better career and life if he was in College University.
Present[]
At present, Mordecai and Rigby current Eileen drink coffee after buying tacos and run the park arriving late for work but who dismisses Benson, but Rigby is cheating and tells those tacos were to Benson and why they were late. Benson forgives regular day and continues until the ship Rigby future falls in the park. The team gets to see and find a more mature but dying version of Rigby, who tells them about the future of coming and his mission to destroy the Timenado; Future Rigby tells Mordecai and Rigby to fix the only problem they have not fixed: the old project and begs Rigby this time tell the truth and not make the same mistake he did. Seconds later, the future Rigby dies and the team decides to investigate.
At home, Mordecai and Rigby explain to their friends when they went to high school, Rigby could not pass the course, so his volleyball coach and science teacher, Mr. Ross, made them do a science project anything, so They made a time machine, which exploded when used and Ross was sent to jail, while for some reason, became the university Rigby and Mordecai did not and had to stay in a higher education. The guards Timenado deducted that originated there and decide to use the ship Future Rigby and go back in time to prevent it from being built that machine.
In the past[]
In the past, Mordecai and Rigby young people are bothered by the volleyball team, who Rigby blame for ruining his championship when distracted on the final play because he practiced with a tuba and accidentally distracts them and lose. Meanwhile, the guards of this come the past six years before and Mordecai, Rigby, Benson and Pops are cast in high school, but because Benson and Pops wore uniforms of the rival school, they are mistreated by the team of Volleyball. Young Mordecai and Rigby people are informed by their coach Volleyball, Ross, that Rigby young to do a science project to pass the course. Rigby young asks an example, so that the teacher Ross showing them a prototype of a time machine, which is not finished and needs plutonium 3 for work, which Ross taught, knowing that it is illegal (which is actually for go back and Rigby revenge for ruining their party).
Young Mordecai and Rigby go to a pizzeria where there is an arcade game with a new one. Two people challenge them to play and easily overcome thanks to a couple of years of practice. Young Mordecai and Rigby are puzzled, because the game is new, but these happen to be current Mordecai and Rigby. Mordecai and Rigby lie to them that they are to help in your project and make a volcano bicarbonate instead of the machine. When your child versions will, Mordecai and Rigby destroy the prototype of the machine and go, but Ross (the future) watched all the time.
A high school lab experiment went horribly wrong and accidentally created a Timenado and is on the verge of destroying the universe. Mordecai and Rigby go back in time as well as Pops, Skips, Benson, Muscle Man, and Hi Five Ghost just to stop this. However, Future Mordecai and Mr. Ross showed up to stop them later in the high school where they were trying to disable the time machine that Mordecai and Rigby's high school selves created.
While he was still spiteful, after listening to Rigby's brutally honest rejection letter from College U, Future Mordecai had a change of heart and ends up sacrificing himself in order to protect Mordecai when Mr. Ross was about to kill him. Before Future Mordecai died, he confessed to his past self that despite his financial success and status, he had no friends or family to enjoy it with. He states he would have been better off staying friends with Rigby instead of being successful. He gifts Mordecai the keys to his spaceship and tells him "The future, is in your hands" before he dies from his wounds.
Mordecai and Rigby are being pointed by Ross. Mordecai and Rigby fight with Ross takes it unawares and throws a floor. Rigby apologizes Mordecai for ruining his life, but Mordecai tells him not to ruin the lives and would like to play video games in an afternoon with Rigby, and both hold hands in apology. Rigby try to remove the plutonium and Mordecai help him because he will don't it alone, but Ross emerges thanks to its collar. Tecmo gives Rigby a sword like Star Wars, while Mordecai and Rigby degolla throws it to Ross and destroys his collar. Ross falls in Tiempornado and is disintegrated. Mordecai and Rigby pull plutonium in Timenadoo and destroyed.
Ross teacher is arrested for illegal storage of plutonium, but not before last Rigby (Rigby convinced by this) to apologize for ruining his party, causing Ross to forgive and not become evil.
At present, Mordecai and Rigby look like the bodies of their future counterparts vanish, which means they will have a better future.
Once Mordecai forgives Rigby and helps him defeat Mr. Ross and destroy the Timenado, Future Mordecai’s and Future Rigby’s dead bodies are erased from existence now that they won’t become enemies in the future.
The next day, Benson looking for Mordecai and Rigby to repair damage to the ship, but they escaped with the ship to buy more burritos and decide to return to the park using hyper speed.
Trivia[]
- The name Mordecai is of Hebrew origin. The meaning of Mordecai is "servant of Marduk" in Persian. In the Old Testament, Mordecai is the cousin and foster father of Esther.
- Mordecai has several characteristics that differ him from genuine birds, in fact, looking like a bird is the only thing Mordecai has in common with an actual Blue Jay.
- Although Mordecai is a bird, he appears to not have the ability to fly.
- His beak sports a full set of teeth (as does Margaret's).
- He has two "toes" instead of the standard four.
- It is noted that his chest is sometimes light blue, but its main color is white, like all the Blue Jays.
- In "Butt Dial", Mordecai got a new cell phone, and Rigby made him a custom wallpaper titled Captain Toilet.
- It is revealed that in "Meat Your Maker", he can't stay in places that are below 10 degrees or else he will become unconscious.
- In "Camping Can Be Cool", it is revealed that he went to Art College.
- Mordecai, like normal Blue Jays, is an omnivore. He has eaten other birds twice in "Dizzy" and "Under the Hood". He also ate a salad in Rigby's Body. In Eggscellent, he ate eggs, another food in a normal Blue Jay's diet.
- Mordecai makes a cameo appearance in OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes episode "Crossover Nexus", as one of the Cartoon Network heroes Ben uses to defeat strike.
- In late 2019, Mordecai has spawned many memes regarding him as a "simp", although these memes did not become viral until February 2020.
