Spudnick was the main character of Spudnick's Great Adventure, the avatar of SMG1 and SMG2 and Oldgrounds, as well as one of the two posthumous overarching protagonists (with Fred) of the SMG4 series. He makes his only appearance through a flashback in SMG4: The Other Universe.
Very little is known about Spudnick other than the fact that possessed low IQ just like Mario, but loved to have fun and used to go on many, wacky adventures with SMG1 and SMG2 until Eldritch SMG0 (Niles) attacked them and ended up killing him while trying to convert him into his and SMG0's new avatar.
Personality[]
Due to only having appeared once in a flashback before he was killed by Niles, almost nothing is known about Spudnick's personality. The only things that are known about him is that he had low IQ and greatly loved his teddy bear while also going on wacky adventures with SMG1 and SMG2.
Appearance[]
Spudnick had a red complexion, with one antenna, a hibiscus red cap with a white S in it, and a caribbean green sleeveless hooded onesie. In his game's character art, he appears chibi-like with wide legs and long arms, while in the logo of his game, his arms and legs are stubby and the picture of Pepe the Frog. That looks more like he's wearing sunglasses.
Upon being killed by Niles' eldritch form, he lost his eyes and his body, including his clothing is cracked and empty with only a horrified look remaining on his corpse's face.
History[]
At some point after the death of Fred and the "birth" of Eldritch SMG0, Luke created a new universe based on an Oldgrounds game called Spudnick's Great Adventure, with Spudnick being the avatar of this universe.
He lived in the ToyToy Kingdom alongside his guardians/best friends SMG1 and SMG2, spending their time going on wacky adventures. This all came to a tragic end when while trying to retrieve his teddy, Spudnick was captured and drained of his life energy by Eldritch Zero, who was Niles fused with the imprisoned SMG0. With his demise, SMG1 and SMG2 were left scarred and their universe started to collapse. While trying to evacuate the Oldgrounds characters into their shared Guardian Pod, Zero threw Spudnick's corpse at SMG2 before trying to kill them too, only to be imprisoned inside of SMG0's Guardian Pod.
Immediately following Spudnick's death, Luke would create another universe, this time being based off Super Mario 64, leading to the events of the first episode. Elsewhere on the globe, SMG1 and SMG2's Guardian Pod would crash land on Brazil and a fragment of Zero that hitched a ride during the evacuation escapes and takes shelter in the Dark Web for the next decade. Knowing the existential threat Zero poses, the two refugee Meme Guardians began their search upon the entire planet for their successors to warn them of the looming threat they unintentionally brought. As for the survivors of the Oldgrounds civilization, they would reestablish themselves as Newgrounds.
Abilities[]
As told by SMG1, an avatar is a regular being but with extraordinary abilities. As the avatar of SGA, Spudnick most likely had the same powers as Fred and Mario.
- Existential Stabilization: As the avatar of his universe, Spudnick was what give his world its form and what kept it together. Thus making him the most important person in his universe which requires SMG1 and SMG2 to protect him at all costs. If he dies, his universe will become corrupted and collapse.
- Guardian's Form: Spudnick's meme guardians, SMG1 and SMG2 received their forms that are based on him. The difference between One, Two and Spudnick are quite noticeable, SMG2 looks just like Spudnick, but his skin is yellow. SMG1, on the other hand, looks like a cyan toy robot, rather than looking like Spudnick (the reason for this is unknown). If Spudnick dies, One and Two will lose some of their textures since they are the first guardians to be modded recolors of their avatar.
Trivia[]
- Spudnick is the fifth character who’s death was taken seriously, after Clone Mario, Desti, Francis and Greg The Alien.
- He is also the first fully original character to die.
- Spudnick by far has one of the darkest deaths in SMG4 history. Literally decaying on screen, being up there with characters like Francis, who literally had his bodily fluids sucked out of his body albeit remains unseen.
- Spudnick is the only major SMG4 character (in terms of his importance) to not live an entire SMG4 episode, being already dead in the 10 Year Anniversary Special, and only appearing alive around 4 minutes in the only episode he's alive in, which instantly follows in his demise which in itself is a flashback as he was already dead by the events of the episode.
- Spudnick's red color palette is a nod to his fellow avatars, Fred and Mario.
- Spudnick's name is phonetically similar to Sputnik, the first artificial satellite launched by the Soviet Union on October 4th, 1957 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in the Space Race and apart of the Cold War between the United States.
- Spudnick speaks with a Southern accent.
- It is unknown how he met SMG1 and SMG2, since Mario met his guardians after the events of Super Mario 64.
- There is now a Ragdoll from Spudnick on Steam (despite being dead). [LINK]
- When the flashback started, the first thing seen is Spudnick being guided towards a skeleton by an arrow click by a computer mouse. This may imply that everything that an avatar does is actually them being controlled by a player similar to Mario in Super Mario 64 and Fred in Mage.
