SpongeBob New Fanon Wiki

The Wilderness Bottom, commonly known simply as the Wilderness, is a sparsely-populated region of unspecified size on the seafloor of and immediately around Bikini Atoll. This region is largely free from colonization by sentient sea beings. The only living beings present in the Wilderness in significant numbers are plants; there are large parts of the region which are totally uninhabited.

Description[]

The Wilderness largely consists of wide, open plains. Small and large groups of wild plants are scattered all around the Wilderness, along with reefs. The largest settlements of sentient sea beings around are isolated villages which can only be reached by gravel roads, far away from the main highways that cut across the Wilderness, providing access between the major towns and cities.

Neptune's Road 1 runs east from Bikini Bottom. It crosses the Wilderness. Access to the Crossroads Ships Graveyard is enabled by this highway, which crosses the site of the Abel and Baker nuclear tests conducted by the United States in 1946. The wrecks of the sunken ships came to rest in the Wilderness. They remain largely undisturbed today, with visits from time to time by human divers; however, sea creatures are often reluctant to visit the site, either due to a belief that there are ghosts in the graveyard or because they believe the ships should be left alone to rest in peace.

Ship graveyard[]

  • Crossroads Ships Graveyard, where ships sunk by the Abel and Baker nuclear tests in 1946 came to rest. The graveyard receives visits from human divers from time to time, but is neglected by sea creatures who believe that there are ghosts there or think the ships should be left alone, resulting in severe deterioration to the graveyard's gate and walls.
